THE LOMBARD LION TIMES REPORT

I hope you and your families had a safe & happy holiday season. Please accept my best wishes for success and happiness in 2005!

Community Vision & Hearing program:
We have not receive any requests for assistance since our last report.

Where does it all go Department:
Donations scheduled during this months board meeting include, $ 1,000.00 to DONKA. They were our guest speaker at the last meeting. This organization does a lot of good work to help people with little or no vision get into the work force. They train and help place people who, because of their disabilities, would not have the opportunity to get an education on computers.

We are giving $ 3,000.00 to N.E.D.S.R.A. This extremely worthwhile organization helps about 400 Lombard residents with disabilities get the assistance they need to enjoy recreation and education. They work very closely with the Lombard Park District, and is one of the organizations we help that help us back on Candy Day. The money we donate will help in their everyday programs.

We are donating $ 500.00 to Lombard Cub Scout Pack #40 for their 50th annual Blue & Gold awards night. This is where they honor all the boys for their efforts throughout the year. If you recall, we are the local sponsor for this group.

We are donating $ 200.00 to a group called the Venturing Crew 1776. This is a Lombard organization teaching responsibility and history to high school boys and girls through reenactment (mostly Civil war and Revolutionary war reenactments). Venture is a program of the Boy Scouts of America and they meet at the Lombard Historical Society.

We are pledging $ 500.00 to The American Cancer Society through their Cancer Walk in June. Anyone interested in actually walking in this event, please contact Lion Bob Goldin.

Past Due members:
If you are one of these members and you have not responded to our request for past due payment, then your time is up. All it takes is a phone call to Lion Ross, Lion Ernie or myself and we will make arrangements to assist you in taking care of your bill. Since we have not heard from you, we are dropping you from our roster as an official member. The club does have an Associate member status (You would still be required to help us out on projects, through manpower but, you would not be billed for any project’s tickets or dues). We would be glad to add your name to that Associates list but, you MUST pay off the balance you currently owe. If you are one of the above mentioned members and you still want to remain a part of our valuable service organization, please contact Lion Ross or Lion Ernie or me and we will help you figure out a way to take care of your overdue bill. As of this date, we have members in arrears to the tune of about $ 1,000.00. We really do not want to lose you, but your bill is your responsibility, and the club needs to stand firm.

New Member Department:
(I wrote this last month but, felt it needed to be repeated.) If you read the above paragraph, you know we are in need of new members. We want people who will be committed to our organization and willing to work on projects, while enjoying the fellowship of some fine, community minded people. Our club has experienced a rejuvenation of people who want to work hard and promote service in our community but we are also experiencing a loss to our roster. Membership is the “life blood” of any organization and ours is no different. If you know of a person in the community who fits our motto, “WE SERVE”, then invite them to a meeting.

Please check out our website. Lion Scott Tobey has done a remarkable job of creating and maintaining this site. He has some great links and photos from all of our projects and meetings. You should get into the habit of visiting the site at least once a month (right after you read the newsletter :O)). Lion Scott has asked me to let you know he still would like input from anyone in the club regarding the website or newsletter. We welcome all comments or suggestions in our commitment to provide you with the knowledge of what happens in the club.

Pancake Day:
Sunday February 6th is our Annual Pancake Day at the Community Building on Grace & St. Charles and Lion Dave Orr has asked me to remind you that we will be needing your help for this project. Tickets have been printed and distributed to all of our members. Please remember to ask for extra tickets for all your friends and neighbors!

Key Boxes:
We working with School District 44 in putting our key boxes and eyeglass boxes into all of the schools. It’s a great way to let children know how they can help their fellow citizens and it will also give them a sense of accomplishment.

Calendar of Events:
NEDSRA is presenting a program at our lunch Meeting on Jan 18.We appreciate your attendance to show support for our speakers program.

We still need a Chairperson for the Diabetes awareness project in March. If you are interested in helping on this program, please contact Lion Ernie.

The District 1J Zone meeting is schedule for Feb. 16th at Angelos’ in Elmhurst. If you would like to attend, please notify Lion Ernie.

Sunday January 16th is the Annual Bowling Tournament at Stardust Lanes in Addison. Lion Steve Wilk is Chairperson for this event and has lined up 2 teams to bring us home a trophy.
